GPS09c Open can also be used without the AiM device. Connected via CAN bus, it sends a freely configurable CAN stream at 25 Hz via CAN or RS232.
The AiM
GPS09c Open Roof constantly receives the signals from the satellites and updates the vehicle's position 25 times per second. The GPS can handle signals from up to 20 satellites and supports GPS, Glonass, BeiDou and Galileo. With the RaceStudio 3 software, the parameters calculated from the GPS readings can be visualised and evaluated.
In addition to the exact speed over the ground, the line driven, longitudinal and lateral acceleration, understeer and oversteer and lean angle, the precision in the lap time recording via
GPS09c Open Roof is particularly impressive:
Deviations of more than a hundredth of a second from the times recorded by transponder are a real rarity.

Features of the GPS09c Open Roof
Out of the information from the GPS system, the following additional values are calculated:
- Speed
- Longitudinal and lateral acceleration
- Yaw rate
- Slope and gradient
- Lap times (without receiver and transmitter)
Race Studio 3 creates a track sketch in rainbow colours (depending on the speed) and shows the driven lines of the individual laps. The measurement accuracy can be ± 0.5 m, but always depending on the amount of satellites available.
 |
the combing circle
|
Using the lateral and longitudinal acceleration, the Kamm circle can be created. This shows whether the driver is getting the maximum out of the tyres. |
 |
the height difference
|
In combination with the height difference, the data can be analysed even more precisely. |
 |
the driven lines
|
Race Studio 2 creates a track sketch and shows the driven lines of the individual laps. The measurement accuracy is less than +/- 0.5 m. By means of an export, the track can also be displayed in Google Earth. |
The start/finish line and up to 5 split time measuring points per race track can be defined via RaceStudio3. The respective track is then automatically recognised by the GPS system and the times are recorded at the configured points and shown by the display. The programme includes a database with almost all race tracks in the world (kart, car, motorbike).
From these routes, the route sketches (also the different variants of a route) can be stored in order to fade them in when using the SmartyCam in the film and to display the current position of the vehicle as a point on it.
