Dear colleagues, friends and business partners,

looking back on 46 years full filled of commitment and passion in my various professions around combustion engines, motor vehicles and motorsports I can only repeat how great this time has been for me. I never have stopped learning and with the knowledge I gained I was able to help so many people until the fate in the last summer told me very abruptly that things would not go on like this. 85 working hours, week for week means too little time to take care of my personal well-being.

I wouldn't have had anything against it if life had gone on like this for some more years but at memotec we had created the structures for the period after me long before my stroke and set the course for the smooth transition to memotec Gen II under Thomas. As a result of the stroke I have roughly analyzed my lifestyle and had to admit that nicotine, alcohol, lack of exercise, overweight and stress from my life better disappear because I shorten it unnecessarily. And I have made a plan.

In the meantime rehab and 5 months have passed in which I have dealt in detail with the topics health, nutrition, sport and enjoyment and have changed a few things to the satisfaction of my doctors and therapists in order to be able to create the conditions for 2 to 3 beautiful decades on the finish straight of my life. But just to hang around for 20 - 30 years I am not (yet) stupid enough and have started to write a book that will be published at the end of 2019. It is about serious things of life as I see and understand them, explained in my personal way - so not so serious at all. This will certainly not remain my only occupation because if memotec needs me I will be available for some days every month. And a few other things are also going through my head.

Thomas not only managed the company without any problems during my unscheduled absence, but also prepared it for further activities. I am proud of him and his work and see my life's work in good hands with him. That is why the company can and will pass over to him with the new year.

I thank all my business partners, whether employees, customers or suppliers, for the trust they have placed in me over the last quarter of a century, the increadable cooperation, the honest and fair partnership, the respectful and humorous way they have treated my company, and the patience they have shown especially with me. I hope that Generation II under Thomas will continue to do so. He not only deserves it, he can do it too.

With these words I would like to send 2018 into the past, memotec into a new era and myself into a quieter phase of life and I wish all of us a lot of grip and that the times will not get worse. Take care…
